Equine Study SheetsCompiled by Dr. Courtney Shumpert
What sets rodeo queen pageants apart from mainstream pageants is the horsemanship division. While many think of the horsemanship division as only the skills a contestant demonstrates on horseback, it is also her understanding of equine science that makes her a true all-around horseman. Unfortunately many rodeo pageant contestants lack even basic knowledge of their horses, and this includes contestants who have owned and ridden horses for several years or are 'lifetime riders'. This series of articles is compiled by Dr. Courtney Shumpert and are intended to be a basis for further study of equine science. They present basic facts in an easy-to-read study guide format. Study sheets will be added throughout the coming months and a notice will be placed on the front page of RodeoRoyalty.com when a new sheet is added. Contestants are encouraged to print the study sheets and add them to their study notebooks. However, no study sheet may be reproduced for any use (including the inclusion in clinic manuals, etc) other than personal study use. They may not be sold and if found on another site legal action will be taken. Sources are sited where necessary. In order to print the study sheets you will need Adobe Acrobat, which is a free program downloadable at the following link:
