Horsemanship Appearance
Clothing - Monochromatic outfits lengthen the overall look of the rider and are much less distracting than outfits with many different colors. Lighter colored hats do not shadow the face as much as darker hats. Only choose a colored if the color matches perfectly to your top and pants. Your boots must be of the same color (and clean) as your pant to avoid drawing attention to poor position. Use inexpensive spur straps to color match with your boots, too. Avoid bling belts that cut your figure in half, especially if you have a short waist, but don't avoid the bling on your shirts. Horsemanship is the place to really shine!
Hats - Your hat should never, ever come off nor should you have to touch your hat to put it back onto your head while riding. Select a hat that fits you well and use bobby pins along with other methods (such as double sided tape, hairspray on your forehead and not wearing make-up on your forehead) to keep your hat securely on your head. If it is raining use a plastic hat cover to keep your hat dry.
Make-up - For the horsemanship competition your make-up should be brighter and more visible, similar to what an actor would wear on stage. Not everyone looks good in screaming red lipstick though, so select a color that is bright and brings attention to your smile. Experiment with different colors, and don't forget the lip liner.
Hair - Always pull your hair back for horsemanship. Buns are not appropriate but a neat pony tail will keep your hair in place for a more professional look. There is no such thing as too-much hairspray.
Accessories - Earrings should not distract from your overall appearance but enhance the look. Avoid huge hoops and other styles that can fly up and be distracting. Necklaces and bracelets are not needed in horsemanship.
